learning animation day 5-ish

Posted by ModinSoda - 1 day ago

If yur new here im speedrunning learning animation, so that i can learn enough to finish and submit a short to the NGTV halloween special: learn enough AND start and finish an animated short before october

and i think posting in public may help motivate me to really do it

day5-ish: overslept til like 5 in afternoon and only got a little bit done before it made sense to write

today time-ish: 1h15min

total time: 21h4min

so i woke up extremely late idk why :(

i'm gonna write this as day 5: but i'm gonna stay up all night and then all day tomorrow and include both what i do at night and what i do in the day in the post for tomorrow

but what i managed in the time today, which involved plenty of adhd not being happy with it being so soon after i woke up

was that on the animation for day 3, the standing person one

it got the arm later on and didn't have it at the start so i filled in the frames at the beginning for that arm [ you'll get what i mean ]

and i didn't do doodles yet, but i wanted something here so here's some things i did a couple days ago

but first... doodles

really need to draw Gorvid more i don't have an example of them or Stell on my account yet

but anyway...

this was the first attempt

what i notice is that just doesn't feel right that the arm overshoots in this context: and that frame that's different from the others looks like a teleport

stuff that went right was realizing that: since it was limp: i could make it look logical by keeping it so the hand was basically in the same place, while the parts of the closer to the part of the arm being pulled moved along more

next gif is the solution i made for the problems, i made the teleport frame look the same as the rest: and i made it so that it doesn't overshoot

it took untill after doing the solution to realize what reason that it looked more logical this way

it didn't build up enough forward momentum for the overshoot to make sense

and importantly, it was because the connection that connects the arm to the body, was only moving upward: so if the arm is limp, in this example it would pretty much just be pulled by the shoulder, so that's the only motion it does is being pulled

and then here's the final thing :3
