if yur new here im speedrunning learning animation, so that i can learn enough to finish and submit a short to the NGTV halloween special: learn enough AND start and finish an animated short before october
and i think posting in public may help motivate me to really do it
day 1: not animation yet
time spent today: 8hr 23min [ i wasted a lot of that adding color to drawings i liked :3 ]
in the introductory post i described myself as "start of intermediate" with pose drawing, and zero animation
the reason i say start of intermediate is because: i can get the things in place, i can get a sketch to be in a pose, but i don't necessarily know how to make a [finished] pose / the line art
and examples on my page took much longer than they should've because i was having to learn as i drew
regardless of IF results are good enough or not, it isn't intuitively flowing, every time i draw im solving a puzzle about how to put lines to the sketch
that will make animation impossible if im doing my non-chibi-ish styles
the exercize i did today is something i've done once or twice before and it's really helped i just haven't been consistent enough for any of it to stick or snowball into drawing feeling nicer
but finally: what i actually did today instead of starting on animation just yet, is that i aimed to figure out some clothing things, which became basically just to draw hoodies because they'll be relevant for the short [not telling you the idea :) ]
BUT first i uh... doodled, which is a good idea it gets your fingers moving :3
but next i gathered some poses [ scans from sketchbook ]
i did the one below with the idea that i would try different things on the same pose as experimentation it only sorta worked out that way
i tried out arm things and whatever
and then... a jacket
it's a hoodie... there called hoodies
^^^^ then i tried figuring out how to add hoodie things to the other poses but i actually have some stuff to say about what my process was
essentially instead to trying to do a reference. i just... make it up.
i make my best guess, and then judge what i've done using my aesthetic preferences. if it's wonky in a way i don't like i change it.
an angle that looks wrong to me maybe it needs more emphasis or less, maybe a shape boxier instead of pointed
let mind wander to make new intuitive ideas, and then judge if that was a better or worse decision and make those ideas into a formula
you will never be done with the formula for like hoodies, and it will change, and it should. but im gonna start using this process to build Go-To ways of doing something, so that i don't lose progress and so that newer KINDS of mind wandering induced ideas can start happening
all of this basically is developing my ability: to know what my aesthetic preferences: tell me about HOW to build clothing, and in fact new clothing i haven't tried before
um... but yeah anyway
i didn't show it but there was tons of erasing and adding an alernate way to do something i wanted to get to happen, like emphasis, or shape, or an angle looking stupid to me
and this took a long time, but now i have an improved ability to "make it up" from scratch when trying clothes i've never drawn before
uh but yeah
next i went back to doodling but for a purpose
it's to do more of the stuff i just said but to finalize more of the figuring out the formula part
and finally one last pose which by surprise became a new oc, and added like an hour or more to the total time just making it nice. but he deserves that just look at em'
YAy WAAA Ba'Al the FEMBOY NUN DEMON! X3
but yeah anyway... :3
ModinSoda
a polished version of Ba'Al coming eventually
and if you read that a different way it's Ba'Al's daily state of being
